Big East Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Betting Preview
The Big East is one of the heavyweights when one talks about college basketball conferences. It dates back to the 1980s. The conference started off as a collection of primarily Northeastern schools. It included Boston College, the University of Connecticut, Providence College, Saint John's University, Seton Hall University, Syracuse, and Georgetown.
Coaches played a key part in the evolution of the Big East. Jim Boeheim and John Thompson Senior engineered the rises of Syracuse and Georgetown. The clashes between Ewing and Mullin played out on the then new network ESPN. It has been said that the Big East helped ESPN and the network helped the league with increased exposure.
Over time it became a football conference as well. It included schools like Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Miami and Temple under it's football division. Over the years tension developed between the football schools and the basketball schools. This led to a breakup and a regeneration of the Big East if you will. However, this time it had newer members like Creighton, Xavier, and Butler along with Villanova, Marquette, Georgetown, Saint John's, Seton Hall and Providence.
There are a few teams that could be considered current 2019 March Madness contenders from the Big East conference. Never count out two time national champion Jay Wright and the Villanova Wildcats. Chris Mullin has led his alma mater Saint John's back to relevance. They are in the hunt for a bid. It is worth noting that the Big East Tournament is played at the arena that hosts Saint John's home games. The Big East tournament is played every year at the world's most famous arena: Madison Square Garden in New York City. Marquette is having their best year since the days when Dwayne Wade was a Golden Eagle and had the city of Milwaukee buzzing.
The 2019 tournament will tip off from Wednesday March 13th to Saturday March 16th. All games are televised on the Fox Sports networks.
