America East Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The America East Conference is located in the New England region of the United States. It was established in 1979. The league has seen its fair share of additions and departures over the years since its inception. The current membership includes SUNY Albany, Binghamton University, Hartford, Maine U, University of Maryland Baltimore County, UMass Lowell, Stony Brook, and the University of Vermont.
Historic NCAA Upsets
The NCAA Men's Basketball tournament has been going on since the late 1930s. Prior to 2018 a 1 seed had never lost to a 16 seed. The record was 135-0 of one seeds beating 16 seeds. The 1989 Princeton one point loss to Georgetown probably made people think that eventually a 16 will beat a 1. It happened dramatically in last year's NCAA tournament. America East member, the UMBC Retrievers, beat top seed Virginia 74 to 54.
2019 Tournament Preview
The 2019 season is winding down. Three teams are really well positioned for a shot at hosting the conference tournament. The top seed gets that edge. Sometimes it helps and other times it doesn't. Vermont hosted last year as the 1 seed. The UMBC Retrievers were the 2 seed. The two clashed for the championship and the lower seeded UMBC beat Vermont.
