Superbowl Betting Preview
Superbowl 53 is upon us! The final game of the 2018-2019 NFL season features to be a good one between the perennial juggernaut New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams. Both teams won their respective conference championship games to get to the big game. However, this was not without controversy. The Patriots' game against the Kansas City Chiefs went into overtime. The Patriots won the coin toss and scored a touchdown. This won the game. Patrick Mahomes never got a shot at seeing if he could answer with a touchdown for the Chiefs. There has been a lot of chatter that the NFL should consider changing it's overtime rules to allow both teams a shot as opposed to the current sudden death scenario. The Los Angeles Rams won their game on a highly questionable play that probably should have been called pass interference. Some Saints fans have called for the Commissioner to order the game to be replayed. Others have called for a boycott of the Super Bowl.
The sportsbook line makers set the opening line at Patriots -2.5. This means that if a gambler takes the Patriots and the spread? The Patriots would have to win by 3 points or more to cover. The line might move as we get closer to the game. However, this is a very delicate art. Three is a key number because a lot of money will come in from Rams bettors who are taking the underdog.
There is also the total to consider. It is currently around 57 or 57.5. Some will bet the under. Others will think it will be a high scoring game and take the over. A bold way that this writer will be doing will be to do a parlay. I have the Patriots minus 2.5 and the Over as a two team parlay.
