NBA Odds

Professional Basketball is the highest competition level of the sport. The main professional league of note is the National Basketball Association. Certain teams are considered flagship franchises of the NBA due to their rich tradition and consistent success. The Los Angeles Lakers are one. They have sixteen championships. The Lakers tradition includes Coach Pat Riley and Magic Johnson who led the "Showtime" Lakers to four titles. Kobe Bryant led them to five in recent years. The Purple and Gold are poised for new success with the recent addition of multiple MVP and champion Lebron James. Other top franchises include the Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.

A sports gambler can wager a few different ways on the NBA. One way would be betting on a single game. There are three ways to go about this. One way would be picking a team to win a game straight up. This is known as a moneyline bet. The favored team has a minus next to its odds number. Let's say the Warriors are -150 to beat the Lakers. That means that a gambler has to bet that amount to win 100 dollars. The plus number is the underdog and offers a little more bang for your buck depending on if you think that team can win. The second way to go about it would be betting the spread. This is the number that the odds makers have predicted a team will win by. An example would be if the spread is the Knicks -10 over the Miami Heat. If you take the Knicks -10? That means you have to win by 11 points to cover the spread. The opposite means your team can lose but only by 10 points. The third way of going about betting on a basketball game means betting the total. The odds makers put a number up that they think will be the total number of points scored in the game. Gamblers can either bet the over or under.
